On Writing for 14 Days

Every morning, the first thing I did was writing.

It feels like just yesterday that I started writing On Lockdown and the nationwide movement control order began. I could remember how I was irked by the backlash that people directed towards the BTS meal. Then by going inward, I tried to unpack my motivation behind changing the trajectory of my life, reflecting on the differences of fitting in to conform and going in for tinkering.

I learned that retrospective writing for the last two weeks does not demand a high level of imagination or creativity. The entries were mainly lived reality and what I have shared before as a facilitator or coach, such as how to ask for help and giving myself permission to say NO. It also does not require a very polished language toolkit if you want to communicate something important. While my English was not great or smooth as a non-native English speaker, I find it fulfilling to articulate the ideas and the thought process behind it.

This is the answer to my friend’s ask: What do you find so cathartic about writing? It is a psychological relief due to the communication of something you value a lot. For some topics which were experienced through a more traumatic situation such as the one in On Charity, it helped me to dissect a lot of pain, mistakes, and flaws.
