OKC field staff adds two new members for upcoming season
Familiar faces will direct the Oklahoma City Dodgers from the dugout and on the field this season.
Manager Bill Haselman and coach Luis Matos both return for 2018, marking their third seasons with the Pacific Coast League club.
Haselman and Matos will be joined by two newcomers to the field staff in Oklahoma City for the upcoming season — hitting coach Adam Melhuse and pitching coach Bill Simas — the Los Angeles Dodgers and OKC Dodgers announced today.
Haselman, 51, guided the Dodgers to a 72–69 record in 2017 and 81–60 record in 2016. His 153 combined victories are the most by an Oklahoma City manager in his first two seasons with the team since Grady Hatton in 1963–64 (172).
Oklahoma City finished among the top two teams in the American Northern Division each of the past two seasons. In 2016, the Dodgers won the division title and advanced to the PCL Championship Series.
Matos, 39, has served as the team’s primary third base and outfield coach the previous two seasons. He has assisted several infielders in making the transition to the outfield during his time in Oklahoma City, most notably Chris Taylor in 2017.
Simas, 46, joins the Dodgers from the Double-A Tulsa Drillers where he spent the last two seasons as pitching coach. The Drillers advanced to the Texas League Championship Series last season after finishing the regular season with a 77–63 record.
Melhuse, 45, joins the Dodgers after managing the Single-A Burlington Bees in the Los Angeles Angels organization the previous two seasons. Melhuse played parts of eight seasons in the Major Leagues after making his Major League debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2000.
The OKC Dodgers open their 2018 schedule April 5 at the Iowa Cubs, while their home opener is slated for April 10 against the Round Rock Express at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
