Dismay in Dundee

Our Second trip of the module involved a visit to the brand new V&A Museum located on the banks of the river Tay in Dundee. This spectacular piece of architecture had been praised heavily as had its contents.

This was a trip that i was extremely looking forward to embracing everything that this brand new museum had to offer. My expectations were through the roof due to the publicity and praise that it had been receiving. We arrived in Dundee outside the V&A and i was completely taken aback by the stunning aesthetics that this building had to offer. All in all, the building lived up to expectations from the outside.

Upon entering the museum the space was not used effectively enough, a large space was dedicated to a profitable cafe and gift shop downstairs. This meant that the gallery was limited to the upstairs portion of the building. On arrival at the top of the stairs i noticed yet another space dedicated to nothing more than a cafe, this meant that roughly 35–40% of the space in the V&A museum had been taken away limiting the amount of design pieces the museum could showcase.

Although i feel the space is generally wasted, one installation caught my eye and interested me. This was the design and manufacturing process of motor vehicles, in particular the car manufacturer Jaguar.

This intrigued me and allowed me to see the painstaking process behind creating a stunning elegant motor vehicle which i appreciate greatly.
