Usine.io

Usine.io is a company that is helping startups or even sometimes big companies to create their projects. It is an accelerator, so they coach startups during a period of time going from three to six months.

They help people that have a good idea of a project to concretize their project, they help them from creating their first prototype to their product placement in stores.

The benefits of this program is that it is going fast (three to six months); they help you raise capital ; they put you in contact with professionals to accomplish what you want to do; there is a makerspace where you can work at; Usine.io makes lawyers and customs officers come to the maker space to discuss with the people about the problems, the difficulties that they might have in the future.

An accelerator works with startups for a short and specific amount of time, usually from 90 days to four months, Accelerators also offer startups a specific amount of capital, usually somewhere around $20,000. In exchange for capital and guidance, accelerators usually require anywhere from 3 to 8 or more percent ownership of your company.

With mentorship periods often lasting more than a year and a half, incubators focus less on quick growth and have no specific goal in mind for your company other than to become successful at the right pace. In fact, the goal of some incubators may be to prepare your company for an accelerator program. Incubators take little to no equity in your company, and can afford to because they do not provide upfront capital like accelerators. Many incubators are funded by grants through universities, allowing them to provide their services without taking a cut of your company.

The cost of this program depends on your budget and what you want to do, but it varies between five hundred and five thousand euros a month.

According from Cigé. (Co founder of Usine.io)

Really often when you ask a student what they want to do, creating a project is really often not their first choice. In order to have people working there, you need to “push them” going there, and you need adults working there every day at any moments, to help people using the materials and other stuff that may be dangerous or difficult to use. And such a project cost a lot of money, and if no-one is going to the maker space then it a little bit like if we were throwing money out of the window.
