The Beauty in Darkness

In my 41 years of interstellar travel on this great blue spaceship I’ve never experienced anything quite like what’s happening right now. But I’ve traveled about enough to know that my limited time…

My Proudest Creation

I have been a content creator for over 5 years and have worked on a variety of projects. These projects involved expensive production gear, countless hours of filming and editing, hundreds of retakes, and a lot of patience. Yet, I am most proud of a video that was planned in 30 minutes, filmed and edited in under 8 hours, and shot on a standard DSLR.

I am most proud of this project because of the challenges that it brought. First of all, 8 hours to plan, film and edit a video is not enough. Secondly, my idea required the actor to constantly change his outfit, which wasted more time. Another challenge was having to film the exact scene over and over again (in different outfits). In all of the challenges, the common denominator was time.

We finished filmming by the 6 hour mark and now I had less than 2 hours to edit. Editing involved cutting out a different selection from each take and arranging those selections to form one continuous motion. We live in a world where the Earth spins and so each one of my scenes had different sunlight. Since the final video had to look continious, each scene would have to be colour graded to look the same. Unfortunately, we did not have enough time for this and ended up submitting the video without colour grading.

While presentations were going on, I kept thinking how the other projects looked better than mine. Little did I know, our video would end up winning first place. The audience was amazed by what we were able to do in such a short amount of time. It was my first time attending an event outside of school and winning certainly made the experience better.

This project taught me that, if I work productively, a lot is possible in a short amount of time. By using this mindset, I am able to take on clients that have short deadlines and are willing to pay extra. This project shows that the most important part of creating a video is the idea. A strong idea captured through a 1999 handy-cam has better appeal than a shitty idea shot on a $10,000 4K camera.

Hope you enjoyed the read. Tune in next week for more!
