Facts About Streaming New Release Movies at Home

Streaming movies legally at home as they are playing in cinemas is such a controversial topic.

These are some of the things that have been fired at us:

To get to the bottom of things, we asked the opinion of thousands of people from across the globe, including singles and parents, people who download pirated copies and those who don’t. The results may surprise you.

Cinema attendance may reduce slightly with an at-home streaming service (thankfully, we have special way of resolving that issue), but what’s interesting is the information behind current cinema attendance. It seems only 15% of people ever make it to the cinema when they want to. Just 15%! The main reasons cited are responsibilities at home (kids, pets, carers etc.) and not wanting to go to the cinema alone.

“I would, most of the time, rather view a movie in the privacy of my own home than pack up my family and go out to the movies. Would definitely consider a service like this, especially for family/children’s movies.”

“It (movie theatre schedule) doesn’t fit into my schedule.”

“Most cinemas are dirty and filled with people I don’t want to be near.”

“Not having the same time off from work as my partner.”

Having physical disability

I’m amazed that most people aren’t in a practical position to go to the cinema when they want to.

We also found that a considerable number of people will still see the same number of movies at the theatre even if a streaming service were available. People said there are movies they will always go to the theatre for, such as big-budget, special effect-heavy blockbusters. But, there are also movies they will never see at the cinemas but would watch at home.

Therefore, with Beanbag’s streaming platform, it’s probable that cinema-goers will continue to go to the cinema, and people who cannot will have another option. Win-win!

Besides the obvious that new movies will be available in your home while they are still in cinemas…

Almost 90% of people think positively about having access to this service. Also, 75% of people said they would watch more movies than they do now if Beanbag’s service was available, which is not surprising considering that people can’t always make it to the cinema.

“Would pay twice or thrice the box office price to not have to drive to the theatre, stand in line, and wait for a movie.”

“I would love to be able to order movies that are showing in theatres and watch them on my TV…we just aren’t movie-theatre people, but we are for sure movie people.”

“I really enjoy going to the movies, but there’s an element of interacting with the public that can be troubling. After seeing the mass shooting in Colorado, we have opted to watch what we can from home. It sadly is a thought that crosses my mind anytime we go to the movies now. If we go to the movies, we tend to go during the day when there are fewer people. It would be so much less stressful to be able to watch a movie at home.”

“As long as it’s legal and legit, it’s all good. If it’s not legal and legit, I’m not participating.”

Those who download pirated movies stated they would prefer an affordable legal platform preferable to illegal options. This means that at least 60% more movies will be watched overall, if movies were available online from day one of release. Not everyone wants to be a pirate. In fact, we found that you’re in the minority if you do.
